Pseudotumor as adverse local tissue reaction due to implant corrosion

Introduction. The term adverse local tissue reactions (ALTRs) is used to describe pathologic conditions appearing after total joint replacement, and it includes osteolysis, bone necrosis, muscle cystic lesions, excessive fluid collections, soft masses, pseudotumors, metal sensitivity, metallosis, chronic inflammatory lesions. ALTRs are rarely described in the literature breakage of ceramic components hip prosthesis. Case report. We present a case patient with massive collections filled metallic detritus, along signs systemic cobalt (Co) chromium (Cr) intoxication. Symptoms developed revision acetabular component application metal-on-polyethylene coupling. Previously, several revisions were made due endoprosthesis instability hip. After removal pseudotumor masses all implantation coupling between head polyethylene insert, there was significant drop serum values Co Cr. Conclusion. Trunnion damage should be assessed during procedures, if present, both prosthetic replaced prevent disastrous effects corrosion, ALTRs, ions Measurement levels Cr patients replacement could identify at risk for development metallosis.
